Pre-Purchase FAQ
What makes this wheat different from store-bought flour or other wheat berries?
These are whole, unprocessed wheat berries — the entire kernel, intact. You grind them yourself at home for flour that's fresher, more nutritious, and more flavorful than anything pre-ground. With >14% protein and high gluten content, they outperform most wheat berries for bread baking.
Will these work in my home mill?
Yes. Hard white spring wheat berries are compatible with all standard home grain mills — including stone-burr mills (Komo, Mockmill, NutriMill Harvest) and impact mills (NutriMill Classic, WonderMill). Run them dry; do not wet-grind.
How much flour will I get?
As a general guide, 1 cup of wheat berries yields approximately 1½ cups of whole wheat flour. Actual yield varies slightly by mill setting and sifting.
Can I use these without a grain mill?
Yes. Whole wheat berries can be cooked and eaten as a grain — similar to farro or spelt — in grain bowls, soups, salads, and pilafs. Soak overnight and simmer 45–60 minutes until tender.
Are these good for sourdough?
Excellent choice. The high gluten content gives sourdough the structure it needs, and because this grain is certified organic, it carries more natural microbiology — supporting a more active, complex starter.
How should I store wheat berries?
Whole wheat berries store very well. Keep in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Properly stored, they last 1–2 years at room temperature or longer in a freezer. Ground flour, by contrast, should be used within days to a few weeks for best flavor.
Is this wheat local?
Yes. These are grown by us or by family farms we know personally — we are neighbors and friends with every farmer in our supply chain.
Does this contain gluten?
Yes — wheat contains gluten. These wheat berries are not gluten-free and are not suitable for anyone with celiac disease or a wheat allergy.
